Laser Hair Removal: My First Experience, the Good the Bad and the Ugly!

It's been a while friends! I figured I would take this opportunity to post about a recent happening in my life, the introduction of laser hair removal. I decided, after seeing the wonderful results on my best friend, to venture into this as well. Who loves shaving, waxing or those smelly depilatory creams?.......::crickets:: Yep, that's what I thought! haha I have shaved or waxed my whole life and to be completely honest, its time consuming and exhausting to keep up with, especially if you have parents whose genes you have make you somewhat of a gorilla in the hair department......sighhh lol

Let's break down my first experience as that's all I've had so far:

The Good:
  • I found an awesome deal online that allowed me to even be able to afford these sessions (6).
  • The location of the spa I chose was super convenient.
  • The spa was very clean and the staff were very professional and courteous, especially the laser technician who worked directly with me.
  • Each session of 15-20 minutes for the area I chose, bikini.
  • No irritation on my skin afterward whatsoever and overall felt more like someone was spitting cold water on me for most of the process. This could definitely be because of the Candela Laser they used. (Do your research on the best laser type for your needs! The Candela spurts out burst of cold air after each laser shock so it creates a more comfortable experience)

The Bad:
  • There are some limitations to consider when getting laser hair removal like the fact that you cant have sun exposure 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after your scheduled appointment.  As we approach summer, I will have to plan my outdoor sun activities accordingly.
  • This process requires 6-8 sessions for 70-90% hair removal and it isn't completely guaranteed that it will work.
  • Blonde hairs are usually not treatable so unless you have a dark hair follicle, you may not qualify.

The Ugly:
  • Although the entire process is rather quick and semi-painless, there are sections of the area that will definitely be more painful---I think I screamed "Oh my God!!!" three or four times lol
  • Without finding an online deal, the price of laser hair removal sessions can be VERY costly, upwards of $1000+.
  • The smell of your own hair follicle burning is quite putrid....gross! haha

Conclusion: Although this was only my first treatment and I hear the laser gets turned up next time, I am not hesitant to continue the process. In the grand scheme of things, it had minimal discomfort, definitely less than waxing and was so quick that it was over before I knew it. To think that 6 months down the road (6 sessions, 6 weeks apart), I could be virtually hair free and never have to shave or wax again is truly what eases my mind, that's enough to throw a party at the thought of it! lol I would recommend doing your research fully before committing as this is a medical procedure. Check places like Groupon, Living Social and LifeBooker for spa deals. From there, do your research on the spa on the BBB website and also places where real customers leave reviews like Yelp etc. Do research on the best lasers and once you've narrowed your options down call and see which places use that laser. All in all I recommend doing tons of research so you are confident when you're laying half naked on that table lol

I will update again in a month or so after my next session!

If I had to donate my entire makeup collection, these are the two things I would keep!

Long time no see gals and guys! I need not get into how "the hustle and bustle of everyday life kept me away" or "I was a bit overwhelmed with school, work and planning a wedding"..but I will focus on the fact that I have missed my keyboard and the freedom of expression that comes along with being a blogger =D

I have been wanting to do a beauty post for a while now but I honestly haven't been purchasing many beauty items since I am saving for my wedding (hey, every penny counts!) and aside from a great mascara I switched to and an occasional new lip product, nothing really blog worthy has fallen into my hands. That all changed around the Holidays!

It is safe to say, if you read the title of this post, then you know to what high regard I hold these next two products I am about to show you. These are the kinds of finds that make me shout from the rooftops! (ok maybe we shouldn't take it that far lol) In the past month, I have used these each and every day and they are essentially all I would ever need if they were to never run out :)

Drumroll::::::::::

1. The Guy Bourdin for NARS Holiday Collection Cheek Palette

  NARS Blush

Swatches 2

  • Included are a bronzer in Laguna, highlighter in Devotee, Blushes in Orgasm, Deep Throat, Mistinguette, and Goulue.
  • The Bronzer is a little light for medium complexions like myself, BUT I make it work by layering and it is pretty awesome.
  • There is a shade of peachy pink for everyone--my favorites happen to be Goulue which is the deep pink and Deep Throat which is described as a "flirty sheer peach"
  • For old time NARS "devotee's", they also included their best seller, Orgasm which I have in regular compact form as well.
  • After doing the math..you know what, let's just break it down here:
    • A Full size blush contains 0.16 oz. or 4.8 g's of product and run around $29.00.
    • Each of the blushes in this palette contain 0.14 oz or 4 grams of product and with a total palette cost of $65.00, that means that we are pretty much getting 6 near full size products for only $10.83 each !!!!!!!! After doing the math, I was able to justify the price, heck $65 is a lot to spend in one place on cosmetics.
    • The convenience of being able to grab this and go is awesome too....minus the fact that it has the typical NARS packaging and it gets dirty very easily..NARS, switch  it up please :)

2. The Lorac Pro Palette

Lorac Pro

swatches 3

Swatches

  • 8 Matte Shades, 8 Shimmer Shades...does anything else really need to be explained? haha
    • There are colors that will give you that sexy smokey eye and also colors that you can wear for a fresh face look---I love them all!
    • "Taupe" is the perfect crease blending color for me and "Cream" is what I have been using as my browbone highlight with "Nude" as a nice inner corner shimmer highlight.
    • The only drawback I see is that "White" can come off a little chalky but honestly I have yet to come across a true white shadow that isn't chalky.
  • This goes for around $42 and comes with a mini eye primer as well--excellent deal as I, dare I say it....prefer this over my NAKED 1 palette which was my HG for a while!

My final thoughts on these babies are this: I am sorry that the cheek palette is a holiday item as I don't think you can get it online anymore--I have definitely seen some still in Sephora stores though so if you're interested, be sure to go check it out. I truly could give away my entire makeup collection (which is mighty hefty these days) and only use these two palettes and a lip product and mascara for a complete look. You can use the black shadow as an eyeliner!

Lorac Pro Palette  Guy Bourdin for NARS Cheek palette Reviews

Happy New Year Friends, wishing you health, prosperity, happiness and love :)

Grab these babies now or be sorry later,

My Beach/Pool Bag Essentials!

beachbagnew

As a Nanny, I am constantly at the pool with the kids. Along with packing individual bags for all of them, I like to pack a bag for myself that will assure nothing is left behind and my hot trip to the pool will happen with ease :) Above are some of my "pool/beach bag essentials". These are what work for me and these are what I always try to make sure I have in my handy dandy bag.

What's Listed Above:
  1. A peek at my insulated lunch bag--this comes in handy to keep things like my snacks and my water bottle/tumbler cold for the duration of my day.
  2. My tumbler--I fill this entirely with ice and only an inch or so of actual water. I add two slices of lemon, personal preference, and it lasts me the whole day and the water is always cold!
  3. Sunscreen--For these, I alternate between my Alba Botanica Natural Hawaiian Sunscreen SPF 45 which can be found here or my Yes to Cucumbers which can be found here I love that they both offer great protection without the harsh chemicals. They're paraben and cruelty free ;) Along with this I always use an SPF lip balm--your lips can easily burn too ya know :)--the one I am using now is the Yes to Carrots Sweet Fig Lip Butter with SPF 15, you can read about it here.
  4. Paul Mitchell Moisture Mist Hydrating Spray--can be found here --this stuff is awesome because it sprays on your skin and has hydrating properties to keep dry (which can happen in the sun) skin, moist. It is super refreshing after laying out to just spray some on your skin and hair!
  5. A hair tie or clip to keep your hair away from your face is always a good idea!
  6. I normally wear a fedora to the pool/beach. I also stay under the shaded umbrella whenever available. At 25, I am more aware now of the damage that comes with sun exposure in long periods. I have been to the pool over 15 times this summer and I have no tan lines---because the sun doesn't stand a chance with me lol Protection now will lead to beauty later =D
  7. A fun patterned large beach towel (this one in the photo I bought years ago from Kohl's).
  8. Your favorite sunnies for protection for those beautiful eyes of yours! (these are Tom Ford-I never wear them, EVER lol but my favorites were in the car at the moment)
  9. A healthy little snack (I bring these Fiber One granola bars or one of my "100 Calorie Packs" of guacamole and some tortillas)
  10. Last but not least, bring something to keep you occupied in down time. I like bringing magazines or a good book. I refrain from bringing any of my electronic readers because pool water and beach sand don't mix well with those ;)
What are your beach essentials?

Fun in the Sun,

Z-Palette Review and GIVEAWAY (CLOSED)

collage
I purchased my very first Z-Palette at IMATS NYC two years ago. Since then, it has become a staple in my "packing makeup for travel" routine. There is something about the convenience and durability of it that makes my life that much easier.

What I love about the Z-Palette:
  • Comes in various sizes including newer revamped ones to include a palette for pro's (a larger size than the original large) and even one that will house our dome shaped mineral makeup products without crushing their little tops :)
  • Affordability is key--you want to get something that you are going to get a ton of use out of and that ultimately will pay for itself right? These price range from $14-25 and trust me when I say, they have paid for themselves in the amount of product I was able to travel with and NOT have break...which brings me to my next point.
  • This palette is hard and durable promising to not only allow you to see through the lid for "quick look access" but also to protect your precious makeup from shattering during travel. It's like the shock proof case you put on your phone to make sure that should it get a little banged up, it won't affect the phone as much ;) The magnetic backing and easy label stickers make set up quick and easy!
  • Last but not least would be the main thing that I love about this, the ability to get rid of clunky large bulky packaging in some of the palettes (pictured below is my UD NYC palette) that you would love to travel with but just can't justify lugging it around. I was able to depot all of my shadows from this palette below and throw the packaging away and keep the good stuff! Now I am able to take the shadows that I love with me everywhere and as you can see a peek of, I have tons more room to fit another 20+shadows in there!

Product Review: Wet & Wild Color Icon Palettes (Swatches and some MAC Dupes!)

Who doesn't love a convenient, inexpensive and pretty accessible makeup product? Even on those days where we may not wear foundation or lashes (hello, I never wear these!) it is almost always a staple to have some eyeshadow in a look that will make you feel fabulous. I saw these as I was food shopping at my local Shop Rite with the mister and at under $5, I had to give them a whirl. Here are some swatches and my thoughts on them:

Wet & Wild Petal Pusher Eyeshadow Palette

Overall Thoughts:
  • I love the price point of these--you are getting 8 shadows for under $5, how can you beat that?!
  • These shadows are pretty pigmented with the exception of the "browbone" colors that I would say came off a bit chalky and hard to work with at first but other than that the colors are really great!
  • I love how convenient these are--according to the labeling, you should be able to get two complete eye looks out of these--perfect for traveling! (I tried a look using the entire left side of the Comfort Zone palette as labeled and I got so many compliments!)
  • There are shadows included that are direct dupes for some of MAC's higher end line of shadows which retail for around $15.00 EACH!
MAC DUPES:

Overall, for price and variety of colors with a pretty good pigmentation, I would definitely recommend these. I can't wait to get my hands on some of the other palette's :) If you have these what are your thoughts? For more info on these and other Wet & Wild Products, click here!

A Very Peplum Weekend: OOTD's, IMATS & Birthday Parties!

La Caverna NYC
This past weekend was such a whirlwind for me. I did so many exciting things!

Friday: After work I shot home to get ready for my best friends birthday celebration in the city. She chose a really interesting fun venue that literally made you feel like you were in a cave, enjoying a drink, with a hookah and a DJ hahah It was unlike any other place I have ever been and I truly had a blast. Not only were the walls and ceilings made to resemble crystallized rock formations that you would actually find in a cave, but the place was underground therefore giving it a really cozy feel.

Saturday: After getting home rather late from the night out in the city, I woke up at 7am to prep for IMATS NYC! I had been looking forward to this day since last years IMATS. I love getting to see everyone and buying all the goodies :) I had such an amazing time there. I actually didn't buy much, two things for a future giveaway and a set of makeup brushes and some nail polish. I was going to vlog but couldn't get accustomed to talking to a camera in public haha maybe one day soon I'll suck it up and do it ;)

I had to leave IMATS early to do some car shopping--if only dealerships were open on Sundays! Anywho, it all paid off because I bought a new car! 2013 Black Nissan Altima SL, she is a beauty for sure---still trying to come up with the perfect name for her---yes I am one of those haha Any suggestions?

Did any of you go to IMATS NYC? If so how did you like it and what did you get?!

LIEBSTER Blogger Award!

"The Liebster Award is given to up and coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers. It's a great way for new and undiscovered bloggers to meet new people, get more followers and find new blogs that they want to follow"

I was nominated for the Liebster Award guys!! Nika over at Nika's Beauty Land  nominated me and I adore her blog so I was thrilled :) Head over to see her blog for some fun beauty posts :)

The Rules
  • List 11 facts about yourself
  • Answer the 11 questions asked by the blogger who nominated you
  • Ask 11 new questions for the bloggers you nominate
  • Choose 11 new bloggers with less than 200 followers to nominate
  • Let everyone know they've been picked
11 Random Facts About Me:
  1. I love koala bears and would seriously own one as a pet if I could :)
  2. After becoming a psychology major I psychoanalyze everyone I meet without realizing it.
  3. I speak baby language to my dog---she loves it what can I say?? haha Yes, I'm one of those!
  4. I like decorating outdoors--particularly planting flowers in the Spring
  5. I am super excited to be attending the 3rd Annual NYC IMATS this weekend :)
  6. My makeup collection isn't that big, I tend to feel bad for buying more than 1 or 2 things per category (ex: concealer etc) unless I am trying out something for a product review here on my blog.
  7. I have many nice things but I am super budget oriented...probably why I have the nice things I do, I am able to splurge sometimes from the things I have saved on! haha
  8. I have only dyed my hair once--don't know that I would do it again, never say never though ;)
  9. I went to an all girls high school and only had 34 people in my graduating class...'05 woohoo!
  10. My boyfriend went to an all boys school, we didn't meet until college though and before attending the college we met at, we were contemplating attending another college..the same one! You could say we are meant to be :) <3
  11. Blogging is my guilty pleasure..that and reality tv :)
Nika's Questions For Me:
1. Who was the first person you told about writing a blog?
  • My boyfriend was the first person I told, he was bound to find out because I spent so much time perfecting my very first post..perfectionist right here lol
2. In what you are interested beside beauty?
  • I love writing and helping others..I am said to be a very good advice giver :) I also love to cook---if you are familiar with my blog you know I post many recipes. I also love photography and outdoor activities..oh and let's not forget traveling!
3. If you could buy just one brand of makeup for the resr of your life, which would it be?
  • I have had great luck with L'Oreal products so I would probably choose them for the drugstore and outside of the drugstore I would choose Urban Decay!
4. How much time you dedicate to your blog, per week?
  • 3-4 hours a week
5. Who is your favourite beauty blogger, why?
  • I really like reading everyone's posts, it is hard to choose a favorite but if I absolutely had to it would probably be Kandee Johnson. After meeting her, she and her writing is hard not to love!
6. What is your dream job?
  • My dream job would be traveling the world with my husband and children exposing ourselves to all of the unique cultures of this world. I would travel for a month or two at each "site" and volunteer my skills and give tons of love and hopefully hope to those in need. I would love my children to grow in this type of environment and befriend children of all shapes and sizes while becoming little philanthropists at the same time :) What a rewarding experience?! This isn't really a job because I would love it so much it would be hard to consider it work!
7. Share one beauty trick, the best one.
  • Drink tons of water and moisturize before bed. I live by those two rules--that and change your bed sheets weekly, this really helps maintain clear healthy looking skin, simple but very worthwhile!
8. What advice would you give for beginners on blogger?
  • I've been asked this before and I always say the same thing, write about what you love--whatever that may be. Write like you are speaking to friends, that is when you are most honest!
9. Do you wear any makeup when you are home?
  • I rarely wear makeup during the week unless it's date night or another special occasion. I like to let my face "breathe" during the week.
10. How do you apply make up (with brushes, fingers)?
  • Depends, some things apply better with fingers and some better with brushes :)
11. Which person is most special in your life?

2013 IMATS TAG!

I love doing TAG posts, they're so casual and fun to write up :) In search for a new one, I came across the IMATS TAG and thought, hello what a great idea since I will be attending IMATS NYC next weekend!

I must give credit where credit is due, I found this post originally on Beauty with the Beautifool :)

1. Which IMATS are you attending?
I am attending IMATS NYC in April!

2. Have you ever been to IMATS before?
Yes, this will be my 3rd time :)

3. How are you getting there?
I will be driving into the city, I don't like relying on mass transit if I don't absolutely have to :)

4. Are you bringing anyone along?
Yes! One of my best friends, also my brother's girlfriend is coming :)

5. Is there anything else in the IMATS host city that you want to see?
I live super close to NYC so there aren't many landmark places that I haven't explored throughout the years. On the other hand, there are a ton of eateries that I have yet to try so that may be something fun to do after the show :)

6. What days will you be in the city that IMATS is in? Just the day that I am attending IMATS, Saturday April 6th

7. Who do you want to meet?
I would love to meet any of my readers/blogger friends! It is so much fun to put a real face behind your twitter avatar/google icon haha

8. What companies exhibits are you most excited to see?
Unfortunately, New York IMATS doesn't get even half of the vendors that other cities do :( I hope we are looking to fix and expand sooner than later because it can be so frustrating! Of the select few that are attending, I am looking forward to Give Good Face, Inglot, Eve Pearl, Jessie's Girl Cosmetics, OCC, Royal & Langnickel and Stila---although I will probably stop at every booth for sure :)

9. What products are you looking for?
I am not going with a list persay, I don't really need anything, but some of the things I will probably pick up are
  • A new Freedom Palette from Inglot as well as some of their nail colors that I hear are wonderful!
  • Some more polishes from the Julie G nail line at Jessie's Girl Cosmetics
  • Eve Pearl Concealers and maybe something from Graftobian
  • Some new backup makeup brushes maybe?? I always get sucked in! lol
10. How much do you plan to spend?
See the thing with makeup budgets is that the previous years that I've set one, if I don't spend that much I feel like I have to (hello its a makeup wonderland! lol) This year I am not going with a budget but definitely UNDER $200. Hopefully WAY under haha

11. What do you want to get out of IMATS?
I am really going for the overall experience. I like to see what new products companies may be offering and to just be around so many others who share a similar interest in the beauty world. It is so fun to meet people and hey you may learn something at one of the demonstrations that the various booths offer!

I tag all of you reading this, if you do this Tag, be sure to link me ;) Also, if you are reading this and attending IMATS NYC next week, comment below, I love to see everyone who is going :)

Product Review: L'Oreal True Match Concealer Crayon

I picked this up because I don't own any concealers in crayon form. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I like it, here are the "deets":

Before & After Photos
IMG_3731

IMG_3735

Final Thoughts:
  • I really like how well this concealer blended in with my skin
  • I like the crayon form because it is easy to work with and is a twist up so no sharpening needed :)
  • The product comes in an array of 6 shades
  • It has great lasting power, I also prime and set after to ensure this.
  • The photos above only show one layer of the concealer, that is all I felt I needed for my under eye area however, it is definitely buildable.
  • The only negative thing I can state is that it dries to a powder texture rather quickly so when you place it on, you must work with blending it out quickly ;)
Product Details:
  • 0.1 oz. product
  • Priced around $8.00
  • Available at most drugstores or places like Amazon or Walmart.com
  • For more information check out the L'Oreal website here
If you have tried this, what are your thoughts?

4 Maybelline Color Whisper lip shades in (left to right) One Size Fits Pearl, Faint For Fuchsia, Made-It Mauve & A Plum Prospect.

I purchased a shade for myself to be able to give you guys a brief review of what these are like.

Here is a swatch of the one I purchased which is called " Orange Attitude" :

IMG_3680

I really like this wash of orange color--it is the perfect spring color :)

Review:
  • I found that these had a similar color payoff to that of the Revlon Lip Butters (light wash)
  • These seem to be very moisturizing and not too waxy---almost have a vaseline consistency on the lips.
  • I like the wide array of colors they come in, 20 shades to be exact
  • These retail for $7.49 at the drugstore which makes them pretty accessible to everyone
  • I like that the outside cover matches closely to the shade of the lipstick---again similar to that of the Revlon Lip Butters
If you are looking to expand the amount of "everyday washes of color in a lipstick form that are very moisturizing" products in your makeup collection, then I definitely say give these a try. I personally feel like wearing a full on lipstick with that rich pigmented color can be a bit much for me. I, therefore, find that these are more my style for every day wear---they bring life to your lips with just a kiss of color and give you the moisture that you would seek in a chapstick or lip balm.

I will defintely be purchasing more of these :)

If you already have these, what are your thoughts on them?
